Stella Ashmore Stringer, age 99, passed away January 24, 2012, in Paris, Texas. Born August 17, 1912, on the Bell Farm near Manor, Stella was the daughter of Lee Ashmore and Minnie Reno Ashmore. She married John Alvin "Alva" Stringer in 1934. They spent most of their marriage living in Austin. Stella was a professional salesperson who worked for T.H. Williams' Department Store in downtown Austin for 30 years and later worked for Beall's Department Store until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Stella is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Frank Ashmore, Harvey Ashmore, and William Ashmore; and her sister, Elizabeth Anderson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Jim Ballard, Sumner, Texas; her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Keith and Michelle Self-Ballard, Irvine, California, and her great-granddaughter, Briana Ballard, Irvine, California. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Frances Ashmore, Galveston; nephews and nieces, Philip and Pat Ashmore, Santa Fe, Texas; Bill and Duannah Ashmore, Buda; Van and Janice Ashmore, Galveston.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brentwood Terrace Care Center, Paris, Texas.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 31, 6 to 7 pm, Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin. Graveside Service will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, February 1, Forest Oaks Memorial Park with Reverend John Stennfeld officiating.
