Norma Lee Routt, age 81, of Austin, Texas, died on Tuesday, November 7, 2006. She was born on July 18, 1925 in Oklahoma City, Ok. to Charles Cantrell and Ima Lee Pogue Cantrell. After graduating from high school, Norma attended East Texas State University, where she earned her BS Degree in Liberal Arts with an English major. She worked most of her life in radio broadcasting along side of her husband, Edd L. Routt, Sr., also deceased. Both worked for Gordon McClendon for many years, before they built KCKL-FM, their own radio station, in Malakoff, Tx. She retired from KCKL, and later moved to Austin, where she lived until her passing. Norma was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Malakoff, Texas. Radio broadcasting was her first love, however she enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting, and the theatre in her spare time. She belonged to the Book Club and the Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edd; son, Alan G. Routt; brother, Charles Cantrell; and sister, Pauline Webb. Norma is survived by her sons, Tom Tyer of Mesquite, and Edd L. Routt, Jr of Malakoff; daughters, Deborah L. Routt of San Marcos, and Lacy R. Wolfe of Austin; grandchildren, Delaney L. Disher of Austin, Natalie and Barton Routt of Malakoff; and by her sister-in-law Joan Cantrell of Mesquite, and various nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 9, 2006, at the Serenity Chapel at Grove Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
