Obituary

Willie Ree Johnson, 81, went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2017. She was born January 31, 1936 in Caldwell County, Texas to Alta Mae Farr and Lenoy Spencer and went to school and grew up in Lockhart, Texas.

Willie is preceded in death by her parents Alta Mae Farr and Lenoy Spencer; sisters Doris Dominique, Virginia Nell Spencer and Edna Miles; brothers Lenoy, Jr., Isaac, L.S., Erline Robert Lee, Wayne and Billy Joe Spencer; and grandson Marcus Earl Taylor.

She is survived by her son, Jimmie Earl Spencer; daughter-in-law Alice Plair; grandchildren Ecila Barnett, Johnny Plair II and Dynasty Taylor; great-grandchildren Marquet Latrice Taylor, Kendra Deshay Taylor, Alicia Rideau, Johnny Plair III, Lisa Nichols and Alice Quiroz-Taylor; great-great grandsons Braylen Jamal Sorrells and Jayden Marquis Sorrells and their father, Brandon Sorrells. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Willie instilled her strong morals, loving spirit and work ethic in her great-granddaughters, Marquet and Kendra. She was always there for them - cheering loudly at sports games, checking in with teachers and raising the girls right. She continued to be a great influence on Braylen and Jayden as well.

For almost 40 years, Mary and Charles Teeple were fortunate enough to have Willie work for them and become part of their family. She was like a second mother to their boys Sloan and Bryan Teeple and later when Sloan and his wife, Susan and Bryan and his wife Delaine, had children: Chase, Hudson, Evie, Whit, Bowen and Adele, Willie loved and took care of them like they were her own.

Willie lived a life of gratitude, grace and love. There is no one who made a greater impact on those who knew her. She loved watching her "stories", news channels and sports, especially football and basketball. She was a huge fan of the UT Longhorns and Marvin Gaye. She was the neighborhood watch, always being an advocate for her community and schools. Willie made a difference because she chose to take a stand for what is right. She was honest, independent, strong, loyal and wise, always a great listener giving wonderful advice. Above all, Willie enjoyed taking care of and empowering those she loved.

The burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Austin Memorial Park 2800 Hancock Drive Austin, Texas 78731. A celebration of Willie's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church 3003 Northland Drive Austin, Texas 78757.
