Obituary

Psalm 124:7-8 reads, "We have escaped like a bird from the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord…" Violet Vivian Johnson Gardner escaped the fowler's snare of this life and her struggle with Alzheimer's on September 9, 2017.

Born on Mrs. Sandstrom's farm in Bastrop County on February 4, 1929 to Edgar and Bertha Skoglund Johnson, Violet grew up cherishing her family all of whom preceded her in death: her parents; her two older sisters – Eleonora Engle and Dorothy Hibbs; her younger sister – Mary Ann Herrington; and her two younger brothers – Earl Johnson and Jimmy Johnson.

While attending Manor High School, she became sweethearts with Herbert Gardner whom she married on June 24, 1950. With faithful love and devoted commitment, they walked side by side and hand in hand for 65 years before he preceded her in death in 2015.

Together they proudly and lovingly celebrated the birth and rearing of their two children: Mark Gardner and Karen Gardner Hooper. With joy they welcomed into the family Mark's wife June, and Karen's husband, Jack. Through the years, they dearly cherished their three grandchildren: Matthew Gardner, Tiffany Gardner and Lynnsey Hooper. And just a few weeks ago, Memom became a great-grandmother with the birth of her great-grandson: Luke Wilder Myrick. And into this close family circle, she warmly welcomed her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as her many "in-laws" and a host of dear friends.

Indeed, as Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us, "God has made everything beautiful in its time. There is nothing better for man than to rejoice and to do good. Life is the gift of God." As we now celebrate Mom's, Memom's, Aunt Violet's, Aunt Vi's and Violet's beautiful treasured gift of life, we cherish her legacy of rejoicing and doing good. With her loving presence, she watched over us. With her caring heart, she reached out to us. With her gracious soul, she welcomed us. With her kind gentleness, she kissed us. With her encouraging words, she uplifted us. With her giving hands, she served us. With her reflecting mind, she never forgot us. With her joyful smile, she enlightened us. With her sweet peace, she calmed us. With her inspiring faith, she challenged us. With her praying devotion, she protected us. With her strong spirit, she amazed us. And with her abundant life, she blessed us.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
