Major Victor Irving Mayer, 87, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

He leaves his wife of 17 years, Marie Parker Mayer, Austin. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Hunt Mayer. He is survived by their 3 sons; Steven Allen and his wife Linda Mayer, James Elson, and Thomas Irving and his wife, Tamela Mayer. His six grandchildren are Sarah Elizabeth Mayer, Colorado Springs; Amylea (Amy) Katheryn Perkins, Kansas City; Paige Allison Mayer, Houston; James Allen Mayer, Houston; Zachary Bryan Mayer, Austin; Andrew Scott Mayer, Austin, and one great grandson Aiden Zane Perkins.

Victor was born on September 28, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts of parents Loretta Evans And William Mayer. He was the youngest of 9 children. He grew up in Boston and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and soon became an officer in the Air Cadets. He served as a navigator, electronic counter-surveillance officer, and Defensive Systems Officer.

Victor's Air Force career took him around the world. Initial training started in Langley Field, Virginia, Lockland AFB, San Antonio, and Harlingen AFB, Texas. The family travelled from Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi, to Otis AFB, Cape Cod, Spangdahlem AFB, West Germany, Lockborne AFB, Columbus, Ohio, and Grissom AFB, Peru, Indiana. His Vietnam Veteran status came from his service at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, and finally retiring at Bergstrom AFB,
Austin, TX. He retired after 20 years of service as a Major. After retiring from the USAF, Victor received a Bachelor's degree in Business from St. Edward's University. He spent many years working as a Realtor for Carter Homes in Austin.

Victor was an active member of The Kiwanis Club. He and Marie are members of St Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church in South Austin and served as a greeter, usher and mentor to young married couples at his beloved church. We are grateful for the wonderful care St. David's South Austin Medical Center's doctors, nurses, and staff gave Victor.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf (Oltorf and S. Congress) Austin, followed by a reception at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin.
