Obituary

Suzan Napier Stratton, age 76, died in Austin on Sunday morning, June 4, 2017, after a brief and unexpected illness and stroke. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend.

Suzan was born October 27, 1940 in Dallas to Eric D. Napier and his wife, Eunice Urdine McDonald. After graduating from Paschal High School in Fort Worth in 1958, she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was an active member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She graduated with a BA from the Plan II Liberal Arts Honors Program in 1962, followed by a masters in history from Southern Methodist University.

Suzan became a professional educator and served with distinction for over half her life. From teaching English in Japan, to opening Crockett High School in Austin, to reviewing textbooks, to teaching Honors History at Anderson High School and Austin Community College, she did it all. And through it all, she made an impact on the lives of countless students, peers, and administrators, winning numerous teacher of the year awards along the way.

When Suzan wasn't teaching, she was serving others and striving to make a difference. She remained committed to her sorority, Delta Delta Delta, throughout her life, serving in countless capacities, including National Finance Director. She also was active in her church, St. Francis Anglican Church of Austin, where she served on the Altar Guild. Family was also important. She could often be found on Sunday evenings out to dinner with her grandchildren at their favorite Mexican restaurant, or on Friday nights at the UT Club holding up "Hook 'em Horns" for the home team and her son, who plays in the Longhorn Alumni Band.

Suzan is survived by her son, Eric Stratton and his wife Jennifer; grandchildren Madeleine (11) and Jack (9); cousins Molly and Mike Chew, Stephen and Katie Chew and their son Beck, David Chew, and Ellen Chew; and countless Delta Delta Delta pledge sisters.
