Steven Clifford Bauserman MD, 80, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in Lakeway, TX. He was born October 24, 1936 in Iowa City, IA to Clifford and Margaret Bauserman.

Steve graduated from Iowa City High School in 1955. In 1957 he graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA where he studied French and was also quarterback and captain of the football team. After meeting Dr. Russell Meyers, a physician, who he would later refer to as his mentor, Steve changed career aspirations from foreign service, to medicine. He applied and was accepted to the University of Iowa medical school and later graduated. He interned at Montreal General Hospital where his French was especially helpful. After having a family practice in Agency, IA as the town's only doctor, he returned to The University of Iowa for specialization as a Pathologist.

He fulfilled his active duty Army commitment while earning a further specialization as a Neuropathologist, with assignments in Hawaii and Walter Reed's prestigious Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. After completing his military service, he practiced Pathology at hospitals in East Grand Rapids, MI and Temple, TX. He later moved to Austin, TX where he was the President of Austin Pathology Associates and served as Brackenridge Hospital's Laboratory Director. He retired from practice in 2013 and later settled in Lakeway.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Margaret Bauserman, his sister, Dawn Schoof and his stepson, Rick Bishop.

Steve is survived by his companion Martha McBride of Austin, TX, brother Keith Bauserman (and wife Diane) of Howell, MI, and brother John Bauserman of Iowa City, IA, son Scott Bauserman (and wife Deanne) of Osage, IA, son Brad Bauserman (and wife Lynn) of San Antonio, TX and daughter Nina Hansen (and husband Breck) of Boise, ID. He is also survived by stepsons Brad Bishop and Steve Bishop (and wife Goldie), both of Boise, ID, Jeff Bishop of Houston, TX, Logan Leedham (and wife Emmi) of Austin, TX and Martha's sons, Jerome McBride and James McBride of Austin, TX. Steve cherished his eighteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Steve loved medicine, music, animals and family. He enjoyed travelling and public speaking throughout his life. His had a great passion for sharing his immense knowledge of medicine, especially neuropathology. He was one of the world's most well-respected experts in this field and loved to teach the next generation of doctors. He was an accomplished trumpet player and enjoyed playing in many capacities over the years; bands such as the Docs of Dixieland in Michigan, jam sessions at Don's Depot in downtown Austin, at church services, weddings for family members, entertaining his grandkids or just sitting on the porch at home serenading his loved ones. His love of animals started at a young age with horses in Iowa. He has always made sure to have animals in his life; dogs, cats and horses again in Texas. Steve was proud of all of the lives that he touched and the influence he was able to have on his own children and stepchildren as well. He was a loving, strong role-model for all.
