Obituary

Sarina "Rene" Mustacchia, loving wife, mother and grandmother, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

Sarina is survived by her husband, Bartholomew, her son Jim (wife Ann) and daughters Cathy Daddazio (husband Greg) and Judy Shoemaker (husband David). She is also survived by grandchildren: Emily, Jonathan and Jessica Shoemaker; Marisa and Peter Daddazio; and Elizabeth (Tibbie) and Sara Mustacchia. She also leaves behind her brother Frank Cali.

Sarina was preceded in death by her parents, Saro and Marcie Cali, her step-mother Eleanor, and her sister Cynthia Priebe.

Later in life and for many years, Sarina suffered difficult illnesses: Parkinson's Disease, heart disease and circulatory problems. Her family was always near her and was fortunate to be constantly by her side for her last week of life.

Sarina was born and lived her young life in Queens, NY. She cared for her own mother who suffered poor health, looked up to her older brother and sister, and admired her accomplished father. She attended Marymount College in New York City, where she studied English and Education. She worked at Merrill Lynch after she graduated. At the age of 25 she met her husband Bart. Fifty-five years ago, they married and made their home in East Northport, NY. There she created a warm and happy life for her family, devoted to their well-being and happiness. She was a very faithful and happy Catholic. She enjoyed lifelong friendships with some wonderful women: Marion Bonomo, Kathy Swain and Evelyn Link, among others. She touched the lives of hundreds of children and colleagues when she worked at the Village Pre-School in Northport, NY. Sarina was a help and inspiration to scores of family members and friends. She supported them in their difficult times and rejoiced with them in their happiest moments. She always saw the best in people and inspired others to be their best selves.

Sarina was first and foremost a woman of Faith. A Parishioner at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in East Northport, she was the last to put her white Sunday gloves into storage. She attended daily Mass and as many retreats as often as possible. About 10 years ago, Sarina was asked to share her Faith on a radio program called Mary's Touch. She told the story of her Mother who, at the end of her life, could no longer speak but could nevertheless still recite the Hail Mary. As fate, or Faith, would have it, this too was true for Sarina in her last weeks and months.

Next to her Faith came family for Sarina. No person ever loved more, cared more, or gave more than did Sarina for the people she loved. What was right and good for her loved ones was always the most important to her.

As her health deteriorated, Sarina and Bart made the very difficult move from their home of 50 years. They moved to Longhorn Village in Austin, Texas – where two of her children, Judy and Jim, live with their families. Sadly, they had to leave behind their daughter Cathy and her family and scores of good friends. The people of Longhorn Village quickly recognized Sarina's goodness, warmth and grace. Those who had the privilege to know her, loved her.
