Samuel (Sam) A. Sanso, age 94 of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2018 with family by his side. He was born May 23, 1923 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania to Mary and Joseph Sanso.

During Sam's service in the Army, he was stationed at Camp Hood (now Fort Hood). At that time, he met and married his wife Dorothy (Dot) on April 6, 1947 and made their home in Austin, Texas and was honorably discharged January 1949. He then went to an Army Vocational school and received his Electrical Repairman certification.

Sam worked for Southwestern Bell for 33 years and retired from AT&T in 1984. He was a proud Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 1017. He was Exemplified Fourth Degree on April 26, 1959. As a charter member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, he proudly served as an usher for over 60 years up to and including the Sunday before he was hospitalized. Sam was also a Life Member & past president of the Men's Austin Bowling Association for over 50 years. He enjoyed a variety of sports, which included playing softball as a young man and watching his sons playing various sports.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years; Dot Sanso; his parents, Mary and Joseph Sanso; sisters, Lucy Verzelli, Rose Kozy and Virginia Golebiewski.

Sam is survived by his two sons of Austin, TX, James (Jim) and his wife Diane; Richard (Rick) and his wife Mary; his brother, Louis (Lou) of Carnegie, PA; his sister, Theresa (Terry) Potts of St. Louis, MO. He also has 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews who love and will miss him terribly.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Tuesday, March 6th, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress with Recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 pm.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 7th at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Oltorf.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society of Austin, Texas.
