Obituary

Another member of the "Greatest Generation", Dr. Roger S. Geibel, age 97, slipped away on August 18th, 2018. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Eunice, and their four children: Elisabeth T Geibel, JD, and her children, Dan Alexander and Laura Bensick; Paul T Geibel, MD, and his wife Peggy and their children, Rebecca Nowacek, David Geibel, Sarah Geibel and John Geibel; Laura Geibel; Eric T Geibel, MD, and his wife Holland, and their children, Jordan Geibel and Wylie Geibel; and, three great grandchildren.

Dr. Geibel served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He attended Rice Institute and was a graduate of Tulane University Medical School after the War. He was also one of the original founders of Pasadena Bayshore Hospital, outside of Houston, Texas, where he had a private practice for some 30 years. After moving to Austin, he worked for 12 years at The University of Texas Student Health Center. At the end of his career, declining vision and eventual blindness caused him to retire. Despite his vision challenges, Dr. Geibel faced each day with dignity and patience. He would sit quietly during a conversation and interject a witty remark at exactly the right moment. He was a gentle, kind soul whose main priority in life was his family and friends. He valued the importance of education, hard work, and good food! He loved to travel with Eunice and they made numerous trips to foreign soils and all of these United States.

There will be a memorial service at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church at 8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, TX 78731. A brunch will follow in the Rissman Fellowship Hall at the church. Friends of the family are welcome to join in the celebration of Dr. Geibel's well- lived life.
