Obituary

Robert Frederick Silvus, age 83, died peacefully on January 3, 2018, of complications related to Parkinson's Disease. Robert (Bob) was born January 21, 1934 in Austin, Texas to Clyde and Lella Brightman Silvus. He attended Pease Elementary, Allen Jr. High, and Austin High School, class of 1951. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1956 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He later earned an MBA, also from U.T., remaining an avid Longhorn fan for life.

Following his military service in the U.S. Army at Fort Eustice, Virginia, Robert worked as a professional engineer for Ethyl Corporation in Houston and Baton Rouge, and Jefferson Chemical Co. (Texaco), in Austin. He then worked for the Texas Water Quality Board, now known as the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality, until his retirement in 1996. He also served the City of Westlake Hills on its Planning and Zoning Committee and as an elected City Council Member. He belonged to Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church for 40 years and served as an elder, Sunday School teacher, building committee chairman, and long-time choir member, among other roles.

Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adele Black Silvus, his children, Sarah, Christy, and John Silvus, daughter-in-law, Kendra Hartmann Silvus, and beloved grandchildren, Caitlin and Ryan Silvus.. He also leaves behind many faithful friends and supportive family members.

Robert's life will be remembered in a Memorial Service to be held at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, January 10th at 2:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to one of Robert's favorite organizations. These include M.D. Anderson, Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
