Obituary

We have lost a beloved husband, dad, friend, engineer, and a wicked wit in Richard Coomey. He left us way too soon, way too fast, and way too cruelly. Richard discovered he had an extremely large tumor on his kidney on July 27. He had surgery on Aug. 1. On September 14, Richard was found to have multiple large abdominal cancer masses that had not been present on August 1. He lived via dialysis, fluid draining and blood pressure elevation meds until his children could arrive from England on September 21. This juggernaut called sarcomatoid carcinoma is extremely rare, incredibly aggressive, and it always wins.

Richard enjoyed a career in engineering, traveling the world to build and maintain the flight simulation equipment that trains pilots to keep us safe in the air. He was very highly regarded in this specialized field. Richard moved to Texas a few years ago to be with Noel Eskew, a friend from the early 90's with whom he had reconnected through the wonder of the internet. They married April 5, 2016. Richard loved being a Texan and he loved selling Music of the Spheres® windchimes at renaissance fairs with Noel. Most of all, he loved Noel.

Richard was a Brit, a wit, a smart computer geek, a great cook, and a spectacular party host. We will so greatly miss his good food, good times, hearty laughs, and interesting conversations. We will always remember that a "proper" gin and tonic is never, never made with lime, always and only lemon.

Survivors are his much-loved bride of 2.5 years, Noel Eskew, of Austin, and his dear children Matthew and Helen Louise Coomey of Crawley, England. Extended American family include Noel's siblings Sara Neal Eskew and Dr. James R. Eskew and wife, Lynn Langley of Austin and Blake Eskew and wife Martha of Houston. Nieces and nephews are Dr. Monroe Eskew of Vienna, Austria; Jonathan Eskew and wife Desiree Monterosso of Washington, D.C; Thomas Eskew and wife Rachel Baesler and their daughter Sammy of Atlanta, GA; David Eskew of Waco; Jancy Langley and husband Dr. Brian Goodman of Boston, MA; and Lyndsey Langley of Plano. Other family by luck and by marriage include Mark Pape and wife, Pat of Copper Canyon, TX; Michael Pape and wife, Tricia of Lady Lake, FL; Margot Pape of Gainesville, FL; Ed Morris and partner, Linda Lee of Indianapolis, IN; and aunt Mavis Pape of Austin.
