Obituary

Richard Charles Dusse', of Austin, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at age 92 years old. He was a kind gentleman of integrity, great faith and loyalty. Richard was born on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1926 in New Orleans, La. to Irma Lucie Barillier and Charles Albert Dusse'.He graduated from Warren Easton High School where he developed a love of music. He received a music scholarship to LSU Baton Rouge and played in the LSU band.

Richard served in the US Coast Guard during WWII aboard the USS Bittersweet CG, in the Aleutian Islands and the Alaskan Coast. Upon his return from service, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Antonina (Lee) Governali in 1946. Their only child, a daughter, Charlotte Lynn, was born in 1949 and raised in New Orleans,La. Richard had a love of animals. He bred, trained and owned many dogs throughout his life. He took over the family business, Du-Say's For Pets and opened several stores in New Orleans. The business grew into a mail order catalog company. Richard developed licensed pet merchandise for the NFL, and other professional sports teams, and many colleges.

He and his wife, Lee, moved to Picayune, Ms where they lived for twenty years allowing Richard to continue his successful pet business. After retiring in 2000, they moved to SunCity, Georgetown, Tx to be near their daughter and her family. For sixteen years, they enjoyed an active life and made new friends. In 2016 they moved to Brookdale Westlake, in Austin.

Richard enjoyed playing the organ, traveling, golf, and sailing on Lake Pontatrain. He flew a single engine plane, gardened, created stain glass treasures, and was a devoted community service volunteer. He played bridge, enjoyed his dogs , and cherished being with his family and friends. A "once in a life time experience" was in 2013 when he participated in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. with his son-in-law Julian (Sonny) Haro, MD. The WWII Veterans visited the National World War II Memorial and more. These men and women of "The Greatest Generation" were greeted by visitors with warm expressions of gratitude for their sacrifice and loyal service.

After his beloved wife, Lee, passed away December 2017, Richard moved into Belmont Village, Westlake Hills, in Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents Irma Barillier Dusse' and Charles Albert Dusse', his brother Robert Anthony Dusse', his grandson Kevin Michael Haro, and his loving wife of 70 years, Antonina (Lee) Governali Dusse'.

Richard is survived and deeply loved by his daughter, Charlotte Dusse'Haro, his son-in-law Julian (Sonny) Haro,MD, his grandsons Joel Richard Haro (wife Debbie), Christopher Scott Haro (wife Melanie), and Jordan Mark Haro. He is also survived by two great grandsons, Luke and Hunter Haro, his brother Ronald Joseph Dusse' (wife Miriam) of Slidell,La, his niece, Kathleen Dusse' Fredrick (husband Shawn), his nephews Joseph Dusse'(wife Laney), Steve Dusse', Christopher Dusse', Richard Dusse' (wife Franca), James Danna (wife Eileen) of New Orleans, La and Carl Danna (wife Karen) of New Orleans, La, and many grandnieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Beverly Simmons, Debbie Holley, Jorge Santos, Kelly Aller, NP-C, Bridget Mathis, OT, Kathy Odiorne, LVN, Leah Arentz-Evans, RN, Michael Kasper, MD, (Phine "Innocent") Mbitkebeyo, Emily Knox, Hospice Austin and the caring staff at Christopher House.

A funeral Mass will take place at St John Neumann Catholic Church on Thursday , June 21, 2018 at 1 pm. Burial will take place at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery, in Killeen, Tx on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 12 pm.

Pallbearers are Charlotte Dusse'Haro, Julian (Sonny)Haro, MD, Joel Haro, Christopher Haro, Jordan Haro, Joseph Dusse', Christopher Dusse', Richard Dusse', Kathleen Dusse' Fredrick, James Danna and Carl Danna.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tn 38105. Please note on your donation "Memorial ID 10000020" and include "in memory of Richard Dusse". All donations will further treatment and research of T cell Leukemia, which Richard's beloved grandson, Kevin, passed away from in 1988; Or to Hospice Austin's Christopher House, 2820 E. MLK, Jr Blvd, Austin, Tx 78702.
