Spicewood, Texas | Age 92

Richard Carfer took his final flight at the age of 92, on October 24th, 2017 in Kerrville, Texas. Richard was born on June 12th, 1925 in Emsworth, Pennsylvania where he lived all his life until meeting the love of his life, Evelyn Margaret Doyne. They were married on December 14th, 1947 in Rockville Centre, New York and had a loving marriage for 69 years. They had two children, William Thomas (Bill) Carfer and Patricia Lynn (Patty) Zawora.

Richard attended the University of Texas at Austin and proudly served in the Army Air Corp as a trainee pilot. He and his family resided in Austin, Texas for over 30 years before he and Evelyn moved to their retirement home on Lake Travis in Spicewood, Texas. Richard and his brother William established Carfer Tile Corporation in 1958. The business is still in the Carfer family today.

Anyone that knew Richard knew he was an avid Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboys fan! He loved ANY football game that was on TV! Richard was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting, boating and a good game of pool or dominoes. He was passionate about his Glastron boat where he spent countless hours as the "Family Ski Instructor". He most enjoyed his time with his family and grandchildren. He was an active member of the Lions Association where he proudly served as President.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn Carfer; his parents, Loretta and Rheubie Carfer; sister, Elanor Jean Ross; and daughter in-law, Jeanette Carfer.

Richard is survived by his brother, Willam Lee Carfer; son, William Thomas Carfer, and daughter, Patricia Lynn Zawora and son-in-law David Zawora. In addition to his loving family, he is survived by his 7 grandchildren, Greg Childers, Christy Haub, Shanna Spangler, Holly Neusbaum, Brandi Woods, Travis Carfer and Katie Dever and his 11 great grandchildren.

Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather also known as our "PaPaw", and great grandfather. He had a heart of gold and was a hardworking man who could build anything with his two hands! He will be missed dearly by all but we are at peace knowing he is reunited with his sweetheart Evelyn.

Visitation and services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish South Chapel 2620 S. Congress Avenue, Austin Texas 78704 on November 7th at 10:00 am. Burial services to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas with military honors.
