Obituary

Richard Alan Hunt was born on a Royal Air Force Base in Northern Ireland on February 4th 1959 to Betty and Jack Hunt of Devon, England. Following in his father's footsteps, Richard joined the Royal Air Force at age 16 and completed his apprenticeship with the 126 App Tech Entry in Cosford, England. Upon leaving the Royal Air Force, he began his career as an electronics engineer and worked in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Australia. In November 1988 while on a white water rafting trip on the Tully River in Queensland, Australia he met the love of his life, Marybeth Crimmins. Their transatlantic courtship consisted of skiing in the Alps, windsurfing in Aruba, snorkeling in Cancun, listening to fine jazz music in New Orleans and visiting his old home town in Wales where he showed off his impressive skill of saying the longest town in the world in Welsh. He asked her to be his wife on a tiny fishing boat off the island of Pulau Tioman in the South China Sea. They were married in Highweek, a medieval parish church built in 1428 in Devon, England on July 6th 1991. It was a fairytale wedding and as they rode off in a horse and carriage down a tree lined lane everyone who watched knew they would have their happily ever after. Richard and Marybeth then traveled around Malaysia and shortly after emigrated to Perth, Australia in October of 1991. They built a life in Australia where they had their two beautiful children, Amanda and Jack Hunt. They returned to America in October of 1998 following the death of Marybeth's father and the illness of her mother. They settled in Austin, Texas.

During their time here in Austin, Richard was employed by Dell Computers and involved in every aspect of his children's lives. Richard enjoyed any type of racing, soccer, windsurfing, traveling, making big breakfasts for his family and was a skilled photographer. He could fix anything and was more than happy to help friends and others put their car or computer back together. As a family they traveled all around the world and in May of 2017 they enjoyed a family vacation to New York and the British Isles, seeing old friends and dear family along the way. Richard passed on Sunday August 13th, doing what he loved, working with his hands outdoors. He is predeceased by his father Jack Hunt in 1960. He is survived by his mother and step-father Betty and Colin Vinnicombe, his sisters Rosalind and Nicola, his adored wife, Marybeth Hunt and the lights of his life Amanda and Jack Hunt. Richard was a friend, role model and hero to many. He leaves behind a host of family and friends around the world who loved him and his gentle soul.

A memorial service will be Saturday August, 19th at 2 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home 3125 North Lamar Blvd. Austin, Texas 78705.
