Obituary for R. Wayne Gibson

October 21, 1943 - February 3, 2017
Leander, Texas | Age 73

Wayne passed unexpectedly from this life on February 3rd, 2017. He was born October 21st, 1943, in Alvin Texas, to Joe and Eva Jane Gibson.

Wayne grew up on a dairy farm in Arcadia Texas, with his brother Terry and sister Glenda. Wayne attended the Santa Fe public schools, and graduated from Santa Fe high school in 1962. As a child and teenager, Wayne enjoyed the country life and riding his horse "Trixie" to school. He even received his first kiss on the back of a horse from his childhood girlfriend. He loved showing animals at the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo, winning several awards.

He attended Alvin Junior College and transferred to the University of Texas in Austin, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. While at the University, Wayne met his first wife, Carol Ann Sayle. His son Steve was born in 1966, followed by his daughter Tracy in 1970.

After graduating from UT, Wayne worked as a graphics specialist for IBM. He later worked for Xerox, and then started his own companies, Kwik-Kopy, Uni-Copy, Uni-Co, Tejas Business Systems, and Lake Travis Lavender. He changed careers by entering the real estate business, working for Keller-Williams Realty until the present day.

Wayne and his wife Gail Gaston were married in 1975. Wayne and Gail worked together as a team in all of their business ventures. They co-parented harmoniously with Carol Ann Sayle and Larry Butler and always made time for their combined children, Steve, Tracy, and Tom. They spent many vacations at the beach on the gulf coast, as well as travelling to Mexico, California, and Arizona.

Wayne was a lover of all animals, getting his first horse "Trixie" on the day he was born. As a teenager, he adopted a raccoon named "Lightning" and throughout his life has always had horses, dogs, cats, and birds that he took care of and loved. His latest animal companion was his horse "Chico", who he rescued from an uncertain fate. They were best friends. Wayne was a big Texas History buff and a lover of all technology gadgets.

Wayne and his wife Gail have been members of Riverbend Church since 1984. He served on the Council as Trustee for many years and was a Sunday School teacher, Stephen Minister, and Choir groupie. Most recently, Wayne participated in several ministry trips to El Salvador and was active in the Emmaus community.

Wayne adored his grandchildren above all else. He never missed a sporting event, musical production, birthday party, or graduation ceremony. He constantly let them know how proud he was of them all, and loved thrilling and amusing them with his gadgets.

Preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eva Jane,
