Obituary

Pedro Flores Alcoser, Sr., of Austin, Texas passed away January 16, 2018. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mercedes Vega Alcoser; sons, Juan Ramon Alcoser, Pedro Alcoser, Jr.

Pedro Alcoser lived a long and eventful life. Growing up in Seguin, Texas, he lived a life that was always respectful of others. Pedro, or Pete as some called him, married Mercedes Vega at a very young age. Early in their marriage, Pete was drafted into the Army Air Corp. During his military career, he began to have problems with his eyesight. By the age of 24, Pete had three children. He also went completely blind.

Pete loved his wife and children and so to support them, he left Seguin with his wife and family, moved to Austin, Texas and was re-trained to work alongside other blind individuals. Pete fathered four more children but continued to work so he and Mercedes could support their family.

Family was the most important part of Pete's life. He always loved being around his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Hardly a day went by that he was asking about one of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as he asked, "Have you heard from... Pedro loved his family.

Music was another significant part of Pete's life. He was so musically inclined that he played the accordion, the guitar and the drums. His love of music was so great that he even played in various venues on 6th Street in downtown Austin. He also loved Mariachi bands. In his later years, he loved having his family gather to celebrate his birthday where Mariachi music could be heard while eating.

Finally, after the death of his wife, Pete loved to gamble. He would sometimes brave the cold weather so he could play his favorite game "Yard Birds." He even had his own technique to ensure that he got the max dollars available.

Pete and Mercedes had a very long life together, having been married 69 years, before Mercedes died. Pete was so devoted to his Mercedes that he rarely left her to go on fishing trips or to visit his own siblings. After Mercedes died in 2010, Pete lived eight more years before joining her in eternal life.

Pedro is survived by his daughters, Alice Mann, Diana Gutierrez and husband Willie, Minerva Garcia, Sandra Alcoser; son, Edward Michael Alcoser; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.
