Obituary

Paul Hamilton of Fredericksburg passed into the loving arms of Jesus Wednesday March 28th after a long battle with dementia.

He was born in 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Samuel C. Hamilton and Louise Moen Hamilton. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Samuel C. Hamilton, Jr. and a nephew, Mark Hamilton. He is survived by his brother, David Hamilton and David's wife, Catherine, two nieces, Elizabeth and Alexis, and a nephew, John.

Paul graduated in 1952 from Lamar High School in Houston, where he played varsity basketball. He went to Iowa State University, then graduated from UT in 1956, and from UT Law school in 1961. He trained as a pilot in the United States Airforce. During his college years he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and enjoyed organizing reunions of fraternity brothers and their families for many years. Paul was devoted to his parents and enjoyed spending most weekends with them at their Lakeway home during the years he lived in Austin.

Paul had an exuberant approach to life. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed annual family ski trips to Colorado, hiking with friends, especially in the Guadalupe Mountains, and spending time with his golden retrievers. When Austin became too crowded for him, he moved to Fredericksburg, bought the Kuenemann House, spent many years restoring it, researching its history, and haunting garage sales looking for treasures with which to furnish it.

He loved the mountains of New Mexico, bought land near Eagle Nest, and spent several years building a cabin there where he planned to write and have friends come to visit.

A memorial service for Paul will be held at his home in Fredericksburg located at 413 W. Creek St. on Thursday, April 12th at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, First Baptist Church of Fredericksburg or the charity of choice.
