Nicholas Vanderlin McCausland, 90, passed away in his sleep April 12, 2017 in Austin, TX where he moved 9 years ago to be close to family.
He was born in Gary, Indiana on February 14, 1927, to Joseph Vanderlin McCausland and Rachel Lauretta Scott.
Nick graduated from the University of California Berkley and received a Masters from Princeton, Woodrow Wilson School of Public & International Affairs. He also served in the Army during WWII in Germany. ·
He had a career in the State Dept. with the US Foreign Service in Pakistan, Uruguay, Chile & Peru and in international banking with Manufacturers Hanover Trust in New York, where he was a vice president overseeing relations with Latin America and Spain.
Upon retirement he was active from 1987-2008 in the Rhinebeck
Historical Society, NY, serving as President for four years. He was very active in the Democratic Party and loved to discuss politics and history.
Devoted to his two nieces, Vanderlyn & Vanessa, he never missed spending Christmas with them, no matter where he was stationed in the world. (They still cherish the beautiful Spanish dancing dresses he brought them each year.)
Nick is survived by his sister, Linda Dornan McCausland Schmid, her husband, John, and their two daughters, Vanessa Schmid, and Vanderlyn Singley and her husband, Michael Singley.
Nick will be buried next to his father in the Washington Cemetery, Washington, PA.
