Obituary

Merlin Juhl, 82, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Mr. Juhl was born October 1935 in Harlan, Iowa to Walter and Violet Juhl, the first of three children. He grew up on a farm near Irwin, Iowa. He graduated from Irwin high school in 1954. In 1955, he enlisted in the Air Force and served domestically and overseas. While stationed at Hamilton Field near San Francisco, he met his future wife, Elaine Lowe.

Merlin married Elaine in December 1958. His son, Tom was born in 1960. Merlin graduated from Walla Walla College with an electrical engineering degree in 1964. His twins, Carol and Kevin were born in 1965. He began working for IBM in 1966 and pursued his Masters in electrical engineering at The University of Kentucky and The University of Texas. He worked for IBM over 35 years. Merlin helped develop, test and launch new products and saw IBM grow from a typewriter company to a technology leader. He enjoyed sports, cars, electronics and spending time with his family. He coached his sons, pitched in local softball leagues, and was a UT season ticket holder. After retirement, traveling with Elaine was always a favorite pastime for Merlin.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 43 years, Elaine.

He is survived by his brother, Eugene Juhl and wife Betty of Iowa; sister, Mary Ann of California; three children, Tom Juhl and wife Annette of Austin, Kevin Juhl of Austin and Carol Juhl of Austin; one grandchild, Alexandra Juhl of Austin; along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.

Merlin was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The family wishes to express their special thanks to the entire staff at Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for the wonderful care and love given to Merlin over his last few years.

Visitation will be Monday, November 13, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14th in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Austin Memorial Park, Austin, Texas.
