Maynard Spitz, 97, of Austin, Texas passed away on December 26, 2016. Maynard was born on January 2, 1919 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Maynard lived a full life and excelled in everything to which he put his mind. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served in New Guinea during the war. Upon his return, Maynard began a long and distinguished career with the Veteran's Administration in Washington D.C. He was recognized by President Richard Nixon for his contribution to the Veteran's Administration and retired in 1979 after 32 years of service.
After retirement, Maynard moved to Texas, married Winnie, the love of his life, who worked for the VA in Austin, Texas and then settled down in Manchaca. He continued to be involved with his relatives and friends in the Washington D. C. and Maryland area. He dearly loved and was loved by family and friends. He was a man who truly made each and every single day of his life count. His love and dry wit will forever be missed.
He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and one brother and numerous blood relatives in the northeast U. S. and one step-granddaughter and one step-great-grandson in Texas.
Maynard is survived by his wife Winnie M. Spitz of Austin; step-children Carolyn Bartlett Key of Conroe, Eileen Bartlett Barksdale of Austin, Denise Bartlett of Fentress, and John D. Bartlett of Austin; along with four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; nieces Bernice Rosenstock and Harriet Rabin and numerous other beloved family members in the northeastern U. S.
