Obituary

Mary Jo Hindman, age 88, passed away on April 23, 2018 in Austin, TX. Born in Wichita Falls, TX, Mary Jo later moved with her family to Paris, TX. In 1949, she attended Paris Commercial College and began working in a local dime store.

In 1959, she and her mother Mamie moved to Austin, and enjoyed living on Oakmont Blvd, just up the street from her Uncle David Sisto and his wife Polly. She worked at Winns in the neighborhood, later moving to a Kress dime store after Winns went out of business. She retired in 1975. In 1978, she was welcomed and baptized into the family of Gethsemane Lutheran Church by Pastor Karl Gronberg, whom she remained friends with for the remainder of her life.

Mary Jo had many friends and helpers living in Austin, too many to all be mentioned. However, she was close with her neighbor across the street, Doris Smith, both of them staying in daily touch as the years went by. She also stayed in touch with Jerry Pringle who lived down the street; and for many years was blessed with the kind help and friendship of Hillary Stephens of Austin.

In 2010, Mary Jo moved to assisted living in Heartland Healthcare, making friends with the good nurses and caregivers at the home. It was there she passed away in bed after a short illness. She is survived by her cousin Tony Sisto of Alaska.

She lived happily with her family, including her mother Mamie and her uncle Tony Sisto.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27th at Austin Memorial Park.
