Obituary

Our Dear Marsha passed away February 25, 2017 surrounded by her loving family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Marsha was born November 23, 1936, the oldest of five children, to Marshall and June Rowley in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She, along with a large extended family of aunts and uncles and cousins, lived an idyllic childhood in Artesia, New Mexico where she met the love of her life, Jerry Hickson when she was a Junior in high school. After receiving her degree from Eastern New Mexico they married June 4, 1956 in Artesia and lived their early years in Lubbock, Texas until Jerry graduated from Texas Tech.

During their 60 plus years of marriage together, they raised 3 children, moving from Lubbock to Jal, New Mexico, then to El Paso and finally settling in Austin where they were partners in operating several successful businesses.

In 1995 they moved to Lakeway to enjoy their semi-retirement. Living on the 9th fairway at Yaupon they loved golfing with their Mulligan's golf group. They also were active in the Newcomers and Alumni Newcomers Groups and loved playing bridge, dancing and enjoyed numerous other festivities with their Lakeway friends.

Marsha, Mimi to her grandchildren, loved her family and enjoyed many wonderful family trips and celebrations to share birthdays, anniversaries and assorted holidays throughout the years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and June Rowley, her sister Louetta and her daughter Stephanie.

She is survived by her husband of 60 plus years, Jerry, and their three children and spouses – Liz (Mike), Greg (Casey) and Brad (Beth) and their two grandsons – Austin Divino (fiancée Loren) and Taylor Smith, sisters Cindy Teague and Judy Rowley and brother Phillip Rowley and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all of their friends for their kindness and generosity. Additionally we thank the staff at Encompass Hospice and The Visiting Angels for their assistance during these past few weeks.

Marsha was always a generous person donating to many different charities during her life. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

The family held a private tribute to Marsha and will hold a celebration of life service at a later date, where we will distribute her ashes among the birds of paradise in her favorite place Kauai.
