Obituary for Marjorie A. Brooks

August 11, 1925 - April 27, 2018
Austin, Texas | Age 92

August 11, 1925 – April 27, 2018

Marjorie Alice Alexander was born on August 11, 1925 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Jimmie Kate and Henry Alexander. The family moved to Fort Worth, Texas while Marjorie was an infant and a few years later the family relocated to Albany, TX. There her mother owned a successful restaurant and her father owned and operated a transport company.

During the war years Marjorie moved to Galveston, TX to find employment and she soon met her husband to be, Henry Brooks. He had worked for Texaco Inc. as a Mechanical Engineer and, after serving as a Captain in the Air Force, returned to his Texaco marketing position in Galveston. They met on a blind date. Henry was actually the date of Marjorie's best friend but the attraction between Marge and Henry was instantaneous and within 3 short months Marge and Henry were married on May 31, 1946.

Their daughter, Beverly Ann Brooks was born in June of 1947. After several transfers from Houston, to Pecos, Odessa, and back to Houston, TX the family ended up in Corpus Christi where they established the Brooks Construction Company. Marjorie was very adept at running the office and managing all the resulting paper work and records. They enjoyed many happy years and friendships in Corpus Christi.

In 2006, they moved to Sun City, TX where they spent some of the happiest years of their life. Neighbors often commented that Marjorie was the essence of a southern lady – full of grace and hospitality – and beautiful both inside and out.

Throughout her life, she was a dedicated homemaker, gifted seamstress and fabulous cook. She loved entertaining and neighbors sometimes "complained" she was the reason why they had to make so many trips to the gym. She was an active participant in the many activities at Sun City and Marjorie and Henry especially enjoyed the "wine parties" with a special group of neighbors who gathered on a weekly basis at each other's home for a glass of wine and then a trip to a new or favorite restaurant.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister and husband, Henry Brooks, of 66 years. Survivors include her daughter and niece Rosemary Sims and Rosemary's 4 children.

She touched so many lives with her love, kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. As her daughter, I could never be blessed with more wonderful parents. In lieu of flowers, Mother would ask that you donate to the charity of your choice.
