Obituary for Lynda Townsend Brown

July 29, 1937 - August 3, 2018
Austin, Texas | Age 81

Lynda Townsend Brown, a fourth-generation Texan, went to be with the Lord Friday, the 3rd of August, 2018 at her home in Austin, with her husband, J. Tim Brown, by her side.

Lynda, lovingly referred to as Lynda Honey by all that knew her, was born in 1937 in Bell County, Texas and graduated from Salado High School in 1955 as a star of the girls' basketball team. She moved to Austin in 1957 where she started her family. In addition to raising her children, Lynda also had a wide-ranging career that spanned banking, business, politics and real estate. From serving as Manager of the House Business Office of the Texas House of Representatives, to working in the campaign of George H. W. Bush, to starting a successful property management company, Lynda was an exceptional businesswoman. She truly found her heart when she moved her focus to the Austin residential real estate market.

Lynda loved good food, whether she was dining out at a favorite restaurant or cooking for a house full of friends and family, often using them as tasters for some new adventurous dish. She also enjoyed traveling and was an enthusiastic snow skier for many years. Later in life she discovered a love for Pilates and developed a passion for live theater, especially anything on stage at ZACH Theatre in Austin.

Lynda never met a stranger and her ability to put people at ease and draw them close was enviable. Her smile absolutely lit up a room and her laugh made you want to be in on the party. Whenever receiving a gift, no matter how big or small, it was received as if it were the best gift ever.

She is survived by her husband, J. Tim Brown, children Regan Ellmer and JoAnn Dalrymple of Austin, Mindy Ellmer and Charlie Geren of Austin/Ft. Worth, Tracy Townsend of Santa Fe, NM, Kevin and Angie Guess of Denton, Scott and Sherri Brown of Houston, Amy and Jody McKenzie of Dallas, Susan Nolley of Dripping Springs, and David and Cara Brown of Lambertville, NJ, brother Lane and wife Carolyn Townsend of Salado, sister Margie Howerton of Belton, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

The family would like to extend its most sincere thanks to Debbie Cooper of Hospice Austin and Gloria Ojeda for the loving care they provided Lynda Honey.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Hyde Park Baptist Church 3901 Speedway, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Hospice Austin or ZACH Theater.
