Obituary for Lou Quinius

June 28, 1923 - January 11, 2019
Austin, Texas | Age 95

Emma Lou (Wright) Quinius, aged 95, passed away Friday January 11, 2019. She was born June 28, 1923 in Famersville, TX to Dr. W.C. and Corinne Wright. As she loved to say, she "was the only daughter of a country doctor."

Lou was an independent woman in many areas. She was the first woman to graduate with a BBA in Transportation from the University of Texas. In the 1970s, Lou was elected one of the first woman ruling elders in the Presbyterian Church in the US.

Her husband, Rev. Henry W. Quinius and her granddaughter, Shown Evans Martin, preceded her in death.

Her three daughters survive her: Libby Evans, Susan Sanders, and Anne Smith (Brien). In addition, she is survived by her five grandchildren, Glen Sanders, Laura Franklin (Curt), Monica Overgaard (Steven), Patrick Smith (Kristin), and Will Smith. She also had seven great grandchildren, Amber Talton, Cory and Jake Overgaard, Cole, Reagan and Grace Franklin, and Parks Smith. Her long time companion, Ora Moore survives her as well.

A memorial service will be held Saturday January 19, 2019 at 11:00 in the chapel of Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 North Lamar Blvd.

The family expresses their great appreciation for the staff of Westminster Manor for their love and care of our mother. Her grateful spirit will be dearly missed. One of her many memorable expressions was, "thank you dear God."
