Obituary

Linda Dianne Davis went to her Heavenly home on August 10, 2018, after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Ella Lillian (Meissner) Davis and G.B. "Dick" Davis, Jr. and her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Ranspot. She is survived by her two sons, Jeff (April) Ranspot and Jason Ranspot, her grandchildren, Heather (Josh) Fleming, Hillary Justice (Cruz Clark), Madison Eckles, her great grandchildren, Isobel Fleming, Cruz Clark, and Isla Clark, her sister, Cookie (Stan) Johnsey, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Linda was the eldest daughter of Dick and Ella Davis, and was born on May 30, 1947. Linda felt very blessed to have been brought up in the Lutheran Church and to have been part of a faith that supported and showed compassion and forgiveness on her during her years on earth. She was baptized in Thorndale, Texas at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and was confirmed in Kingsville, Texas at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Linda's parents were farming stock from Bishop, Texas and Linda gained an early love of the Wild West and everything that went with it. It was her schoolteacher mother, however, that introduced her children to music, and Linda was musical for the rest of her life. She taught private piano lessons for many years and found joy in playing the piano and organ. She studied with Mrs. Carolyn Casper and thought of her as one of the most important influences in her life.

Linda attended school in Bishop, notably participating in the BHS Band and Choir. She graduated from Bishop High School in 1965. She married Michael Ray Ranspot on September 3, 1965. The couple would go on to have two sons, Jeffrey Todd Ranspot, and Jason Wayne Ranspot, and one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Ranspot.

Studies at university followed her graduation, and Linda obtained a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, allowing her to follow a career in teaching and school counseling. Throughout her adult life, Linda moved from place to place, experiencing more than a farmer's daughter from Bishop could typically hope to see. In her later years, Linda settled down in Leander, Texas and made a home in the northern Austin area.

One of the most cherished persons in Linda's life was her sister, Margaret Carole Davis Johnsey ("Cookie"), who Linda continued to be inspired by throughout her life. The greatest joys throughout her life were her two sons, Jeff and Jason, who grew into men she was very proud of. Her joy was only multiplied when she was blessed with grandchildren: Heather Nicole Fleming, Hillary Justice, and Madison Eckles, and then, the ultimate blessing, great-grandchildren: Isobel Fleming, Cruz Clark, and Isla Clark.

Linda was her parents' daughter, with the sharp wit and cleverness of her father and the gentle nature hiding a spitfire personality of her mother. She was generous in spirit, often with little of her own but more than willing to share with anyone in need. No one was ever turned away that needed a kind word or a willing ear to listen. Linda was a steady constant to those who loved her. She brought joy to those around her, able to find silver linings in even the darkest of clouds. She was a true example of a Christian life lived in service to God and her neighbor. Her passing is the loss of a bright light from this world, now at final rest with her Savior.

Services will be held on August 25, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 521 East Doddridge Ave., Kingsville, TX. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:30 am, with services beginning at 10:30 am and burial following at Restland Cemetery in Bishop, Texas.
