Kathleen Ann Murphy, age 78, of Belmont Village in Austin Texas, passed away peacefully on November 25th, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Lawrence E. Murphy, Jr. She was the daughter of James Roy Driscoll and Kathleen Ann Driscoll of Worcester, Mass. She grew up in Worcester with her sister Sue Cutter before moving to New Jersey to start her family. She then returned to Massachusetts for a few years before raising her children in Cheshire, CT. She and Lawrence resided in Avon, CT for 18 years until his passing. She then spent 10 years in the retirement community of Sun City in Georgetown, TX. Her final years were spent in the Belmont Village community in Austin.
Kay was a graduate of Smith College with a major in Chemistry. Following her graduation, she worked at Polaroid where she helped the company to perfect the development of color film. She went on to take courses in accounting when her children were young and used these skills for the remainder of her career. She worked many years as a bookkeeper in a car dealership in Cheshire, a teacher's credit union in Hamden, as a manager of a credit union in Bristol and finally in a nursing home in Avon. She had a love of tennis and bridge throughout her life and spent nearly every evening strolling the neighborhood with her husband by her side.
She is survived by her sister Sue and her husband Craig Cutter of Baltimore, Maryland; her three children and their spouses Melissa and Mark Livsey of Austin, Texas, Lawrence E. Murphy III and Marysan of Stockton, CA and Jennifer and Graham Hill of Darien, CT; and her beloved grandchildren Brianna and her husband James, Caitlin, Ashley, Geoffrey, Zachary, Sophie, April and Patrick.
A memorial service will be held in Georgetown, TX at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kay's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave, 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601-7633 or on www.alz.org
