Obituary

Judge B. Bernard, Jr., Pastor/Teacher, 70, of Austin, Texas went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, August 22, 2017, in his home, surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with acute leukemia.

Judge was born November 2, 1946 in Dallas, Texas to Orellia and Judge B. Bernard, Sr. Following the tragic loss of his parents, Judge and his six siblings grew up in various foster homes before being reunited with their family in Louisiana. He graduated from H. C. Ross High School in Crowley, Louisiana in 1965; served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970; graduated from Bishop College in 1974 and attended Meharry Medical School's summer program in 1971. Judge's gifted ability in math, science and research were exercised over his 30-year career as a research chemist and quality, safety and environmental manager at Abbott Laboratories and Tex-Trude, respectively.

Judge focused the purpose of his life on his relationship with Jesus Christ and was called to ministry starting his training at Southern Bible Institute in Dallas, Texas. He served as a pastor, teacher and mentor at various churches, homes and telephonic Bible studies for over forty years. Even after his abrupt and terminal diagnosis of leukemia in June 2017, he faithfully persisted in the faith sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with nurses during his hospitalization and encouraging his hospice nurses during the last months of his life.

In addition to his insatiable passion for Christ, Judge enjoyed his family, cooking, playing a wicked game of spades or dominoes and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Judge is survived by his beloved wife Beverly Bernard, children: Dr. Melissa J. Urrea and spouse Jose Javier Urrea; Tamara Daniels, Dr. Hope Hubbard, Sargent Terica Bernard, USAF and Tia Nobles; and grandchildren: Angel, Trenton, James (Trey), Tasia, Alejandro, Journee and T'Eric. He is also survived by his sisters: Eddie Reese, Sharon Rose and Nora Bernard; and many other extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Lyman, sisters Alma and Marjorie, nephew Lyman and daughter Timberly whom he has joined in Paradise.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Pastor Bernard at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Leander, Texas on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 1 PM.
