Graduate of the University of Texas where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. Worked at City Bank on Congress Avenue for ten years in the safety deposit box and bookkeeping departments. Member of Highland Park Baptist Church from 1965 to 1980.

Survivors include son, Kenneth D. Lastinger; step-daughter, Karen J. Urelius; step-son, Rick Johnson; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard D. Kinney his wife Margret, and their daughters, Elizabeth Robertson and Mary Dawson. Predeceased by parents; son, David W. Lastinger husband, John Joseph Emory Johnson;, and niece, Kathrine Kinney.

Joyce always surrounded herself with family. In the '60s and '70's her brothers family was a big part of vacations, Christmas Holidays and Thanksgivings. In the '80s and '90s it was Emory's daughter Karen who hosted numerous vacations, all the Holiday gatherings with son Rick's families that were a big part of every Christmas, and Thanksgiving. The 90s were also a trying time for Joyce and Ken, as they worked together to care for David who was paralyzed by M.S. David's passing in 2002 was hard on both of them to get through, learning that you never quit missing him. In 2003 Joyce and Emory sold the Austin Home where she'd raised Ken and David, and bought the Lake LBJ place where she had spent every summer in the '60s and '70s, with her Dad, Dexter and sons Ken, and David. After adding a Master suite, she and Emory lived there until passing away.

Graveside service at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, at Austin Memorial Park.
