Obituary for Joseph Edward Rose

February 17, 1929 - July 15, 2018
Austin, Texas | Age 89

Joseph Edward Rose (Joe), age 89, was called home by our Heavenly Father on July 15, 2018. Joe was born on February 17, 1929 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the son of Josephine Swidnak Rose and Joseph
A. Rose.

Joe grew up in Elizabeth, as the middle child, with an older sister and younger brother. He loved baseball, sailing, cross country, and cars. Born into the depression, Joe always had an incredible work ethic. Even as a teenager, he worked as milkman assistant and a golf caddy. Joe enlisted with the Army when he turned 18 and served in WW2 and Korea. When he returned from Korea, he became reacquainted with Peggy, who had lived around the corner from him his whole life. While he had been away, Peggy had grown into a beautiful young lady. He invited her on a date, and the rest is history. They were married for 58 years, until Peg passed away in 2015.

Joe started his career at Exxon in the mailroom. His work ethic and talent gained him promotion after promotion. He completed 37 years with Exxon as the Computer Manager for Exxon USA in Houston. After an early retirement, Joe obtained his Captain's license and started The Rose Sailing School. Peg often joked that he worked longer hours after retiring then he did before. He loved running his own business, and his clients loved him as a teacher and friend.

PopPop, as he is known by his grandkids, was always ready for fun. His love of music, fixing things, dancing and outdoor activities was appreciated by his whole family. We all have fond memories of the words of wisdom he would share. His life purpose and joy was seeing his family flourish.

Joe is survived by his two daughters, Joanne Kemper and Mary Ellen Clarkson, their husbands, Dr. Jim Kemper and Mr. Tim Clarkson, and his seven grandchildren, Conner Kemper and his wife Heather, Blake Kemper, Will Clarkson, Craig Kemper, Caroline Clarkson, Mary Claire Kemper and Spencer Clarkson.
