John Joseph Nolan, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2018. Born in Philadelphia on August 15, 1932, to Frank W. Nolan, Sr. and Gertrude Smith Nolan, John moved with his family to South Orange, New Jersey in 1932.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy Vogt Nolan; sister, Gertrude; brother, Frank Jr.

John is survived by his brothers, Robert J. (Naples, Florida) and Rev. Paul J. (Jersey City, New Jersey); his stepchildren, Michael Vogt (Sharon) of The Villages, Florida, Patricia (Thomas) Gleason of Rowayton, Connecticut, Christopher Vogt (Cyndy) of Kennewick, Washington and Mary Jane (Rudy) Suter of Boca Raton, Florida; and a large number of other family members.

John graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School and Seton Hall University where he excelled in public speaking and oratory skills. A naval officer and Vietnam veteran, John later married Nancy Vogt and together they lived in Scarsdale, New York while John worked for Bankers Trust in New York City. They then moved to Rockville, Maryland where he worked with the Bicentennial Memorial Commission chaired by Texas Governor John Connally. John later served as a speechwriter in Connally's campaign for the Republican nomination to the Presidency in 1980.

John and Nancy later moved to Houston, Texas, and then to Austin, Texas, where he was employed by Temple Inland Corporation.

John later formed Nolan Associates which provided OSHA compliance guidance to the maritime industry in the United States and South America.

John was an enthusiastic and accomplished golfer from his early days in Spring Lake, New Jersey and, until his death was a member of the Onion Creek Country Club in Austin, Texas. He was also an outdoor model railroading enthusiast.

John was a devout Catholic and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in New Jersey with interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, New Jersey, scheduled at the family's convenience.

Donations may be made in John's memory to Seton Hall Preparatory School, in West Orange, New Jersey, in lieu of flowers.
