Obituary

Lt. Col. John "Jerry" Webster, US Army (Retired), age 86, of Austin, Texas passed away at his home on November 4, 2017. He was a devoted husband to his wife Kathleen Koons Webster for 63 years. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Velcer Perry Webster and Irma Ruth (Coffman) Webster.

Among many accomplishments, Jerry achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1949 and then went on to attend Oklahoma A&M University (OSU), where he played varsity baseball on scholarship and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Upon graduation, Jerry entered the United States Army where he earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and attained the status of Master Army Aviator. During his two tours in the Vietnam War, he earned a Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, numerous Air Medals, and other awards.

After his military years, Jerry worked for the United States Postal Service, as well as officiating for high school football and baseball games. He was a dedicated spectator for his sons' and grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed golf, bridge and being at the lake house with family.

Jerry has two sons, Jay Webster and his wife Lisa of Austin, and Dave Webster and his wife Kim of Austin, three grandchildren: Kendyl (Webster) Cervenka and her husband Brett of Austin, 2nd Lt. Shawn Webster, USAF, and his wife Kailey of Austin, and Jessaleigh Webster of Austin; one great-grandchild: John "Jackson" Cervenka; two nieces Susan Jones, and Valerie Koons-Willis and her husband Brian; two nephews Bradley Jones, and Phillip Koons. He was the brother of Patsy R Jones of Tulsa who predeceased him.

A special thank you to Nathan Gruell, physical therapist with Encompass Home Health who extended Jerry's life for a few more months and to Dr. K.. Bhatt, Dr. R. Gammon and all the staff at the Heart Hospital of Austin.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jerry's life at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin on Sunday, November 12th from 2-4pm. Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to the American Heart Association, Austin Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
