Obituary

John B. "Bunny" Andrews of Austin, Texas passed away on October 4, 2017 at the age of 86.

Bunny grew up in Dallas, Texas where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School. He moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas and played quarterback for the Longhorns. After graduating, he worked in sporting goods for 50+ years traveling all over Texas. He remained involved in high school athletics and, as a result, was awarded with induction into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame as a special category inductee in 1997. He was also honored by Texas Relays for his 60+ years as a starter/referee.

Bunny never met a stranger. He valued friendship more than anything in the world and was happiest surrounded by friends and family laughing and telling stories. He was as kind as he was generous. If you met him, you would remember him and vice versa- he never forgot a face or a name. He loved sports, visiting with coaches, being a part of Coach Royal's "lunch bunch", spending time with his family and vacationing at the family cabin in Taos, New Mexico. He was an amazing father, grandfather and friend and will be missed terribly.

He is survived by his son David Andrews; son Danny Andrews and wife Mel; daughter Jennifer Andrews; stepsons Rusty, Rick and Chuck Boykin; grandsons Brian and Kevin Andrews and Spencer and Jack Boykin; sister-in-law BJ Andrews; niece Lisa Andrews Ard, niece Betsy Andrews Dabbs; niece Melissa Andrews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Jan, his brother Rooster Andrews, his nephew Griff Andrews and his niece Susan Andrews.

A special thank you to Dr. Chawla at Texas Oncology and to the nurses and doctors at Seton Northwest for their kindness and care. It meant more than we can say.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Austin Animal Shelter. His shelter dog, Nellie, was his constant and loyal companion.

A memorial service and reception will be held at 10am on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 N Lamar Blvd in Austin.
