Obituary

Joe Dominguez Diaz went to be with his Lord on November 13, 2017. He was born on March 23, 1932 in McNeil TX, the seventh of eleven siblings born to Manuel and Petra Diaz. Joe was married to Mary Flores Diaz for over 60 years and they lived in Austin, Texas where they raised their five children. He was 85 years old.

Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Flores Diaz, parents Manuel and Petra Diaz, brothers Silverio, John Paul, Manuel, Jesse, Pete, Marcelo, Juan and his treasured in-laws Victor and Eduwiges Flores.

He is survived by his children; daughter Dee Lopez (David), son Joe Diaz Jr, daughter Esther Lafuente (Michael), daughter Juanita Tavares and son James Diaz, grandchildren Joe Michael Diaz, Sarah Lopez Rivera (Raimy), Adrianna Lafuente (Jermaine Beal), Christopher Lafuente, James Anthony Diaz, Matthew Tavares (Cristina Navarro), Marisa Tavares, Victoria Diaz, and great-grandchildren Jaidyn Nicole Beal, Valentina Amalia Tavares, Rafael David Rivera, Legend Michael Beal; sister Helen Diaz Camarillo, brothers Robert 'Toro' Diaz and Amador 'Tito' Diaz.

Joe retired from Tony's Tortilla Inc. as a route salesman, proudly managing accounts for authentic family-run Mexican restaurants in the Greater Austin area. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War assigned to bases in Fort Knox and Louisville, Kentucky. He coached little league baseball for the Austin Police Association volunteering numerous hours affecting the lives of young aspiring men. He was a loyal member of Dolores Catholic Church where he served as part of their ministry for over 60 years.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and people whose lives he touched with his humor and colorful stories, including the hundreds of jokes he told and always remembering the punchline! A dear family member said it best "He will be remembered the most as a man that could lift the world and put a smile on your face in an instant". His other pastimes included his love for singing conjunto, country and traditional Mexican music.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:00 am at Dolores Catholic Church, 1111 Montopolis Dr. 78741. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
