Obituary for Jerry L Fisher

September 19, 1947 - October 4, 2018
Brownwood, Texas | Age 71

Jerry L Fisher of Brownwood, Texas was born September 19, 1947 and was called home by the LORD on October 4, 2018.

Jerry was one of five children born to Mary Killough and Walter Dempsey Fisher of Brownwood, TX. Jerry served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Norton Sound for four years and in the reserves for two years.

Jerry graduated from Howard Payne University with a BBA in Accounting and moved to Austin to work for the Texas State Comptroller of Public Accounts as an auditor. During his tenure at the Comptroller's office he met his wife of 32 years, Mary M Joseph, who also worked at the State Comptroller's office.

All of us born in Texas have a heart as big as our great state and Jerry was no exception to that. He was a large man surpassed only in size by the size of his heart. He had a contagious laugh and a hug that made you feel welcomed and special. Yet, Jerry lived life small and simple with an eye for detail and a creative talent as vast as Texas. There was nothing he could not do or could not answer.

From crafting a quilt rack to engineering bee hives to building a magnificent log home from foundation to finish. Whether Jerry was plowing fields or casting a fishing line, he did it with precision and ease. In the kitchen, he could whip biscuits from scratch in less than 5 minutes and his brisket was always a family favorite.

Jerry was the ultimate "rescuer" for family and community. Wherever or whenever, if you were stuck in a ditch, hurt, needed something repaired or just wanted a friend, all you had to do was call Jerry and he was there.

Although Jerry is gone from our sight, he is not gone from our memories. He may be gone from our touch but not from our feel; gone from our presence but not from our hearts; for love is unending.

May God grant Jerry eternal peace.

Jerry joins his parents Mary Killough and Walter Dempsey Fisher. He leaves many to rejoice in his life and in God's promise to see him again; wife, Mary Joseph Fisher, sisters, Alice (Sam) Allen of Corpus Christi, Nita (Rick) Hudson of Granbury, brothers, Jick (Carma) Fisher of Wichita Falls and Stanley (Karen) Fisher of Grosvenor, sister –in-law Jo Ann Joseph and husband Robert Ryon, brothers-in-law Joe J (Becky) Joseph, Jr., Salem T Joseph, and Anthony F (Suzanne) Joseph all of Austin, numerous nieces and nephews that were considered their "children", aunts, uncles and cousins, his fraternity brothers, friends and colleagues and community members.

A Celebration of Jerry's life will take place on November 11th at 2:00 p.m. at High Mesa Cowboy Church, 1100 High Mesa Dr., Brownwood, TX 76801.
