Jennifer Tuthill Johnston, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Wednesday March 15, 2017. Born September 10, 1965 in Norfolk, Virginia, her family moved to Houston in 1979. Jennifer graduated from Stratford High School and North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Jennifer worked for Sylvia Longoria Dorsey and Creative Flooring in Houston before starting her own interior design company, Jennifer Tuthill Johnston Décor, in Austin, Texas.
Jennifer was the most beautiful, vibrant and creative soul. An endless caring spirit, who would go to great lengths to serve and take care of others. When friends asked for Jen's opinion- and everyone did- she gave them the truth. You smiled when you heard "fab" or "that's so fine". You winced when she said of a dress "that's so marching band". She made you smile. She made you laugh. She made you know love.
Jennifer loved attending and supporting her children's many activities from ballet and dance to lacrosse and football. Jen tirelessly and effortlessly championed and volunteered for countless committees endorsing her children's passions. Watching her children excel was one of her greatest joys.
Jennifer and her loving fiancé, Steve, among many strong similar interests shared a dedication to spending Christmas with the homeless. Their kindness and concern for the less fortunate was a focus they loved during these past five years. Jennifer's love and respect of animals was well known. Her dog, Boo, a YorkiePoo, and cat, Max, were ever present when you walked through the door of her home.
Jennifer was a very well respected and published interior designer. Her knowledge of construction and design details were insurmountable. Jennifer was gifted in creating stunning environments from the most simple elements.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her father, Bartley Fanning Tuthill, III and brother, Douglas Rogers Tuthill.
Jennifer is survived by her three beautiful children, Grace Margaret Johnston, Emma Kathleen Johnston and Thomas Tuthill Johnston; fiancé Steve Hamilton; sister, Amy Margaret Tuthill; nephews, Skye Douglas Strachan and Kieran Howard Strachan; brother, Bartley Fanning Tuthill, IV; sister-in-law, Traci Tuthill; niece, Maggie Tuthill and nephew, Bartley Fanning Tuthill, V; and stepmother Carol Jackson.
A private ceremony and reception will be held for Jennifer's family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of Jennifer to Austin Shelter for Women and Children.
