Obituary

James (Jim) Austin Rand, 84, of Leander, Texas, passed away quietly in his sleep on August 2nd, 2018, in Austin, Texas. Jim was born in Wild Cherry, Arkansas, on November 9th, 1933.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Jean (Campbell) Rand, son Jerry Austin Rand and wife Judy, son Joel Aaron Rand and wife Martha, daughter Marley Rene (Rand) Kent and husband Mark, sister Betty (Rand) Wilburn and husband Art, grandchildren Alisha Rand, Jennifer Beeson and husband Michael, Jaime Rand and wife Megan, Travis Rand, Erin Rand, and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by brother Charles Rand and son Jeff Allen Rand.

Jim served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed in Hawaii, Okinawa, Korea, and Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, being honorably discharged in 1952 with a rank of Sergeant.

Jim was very active in Scouting for nearly 30 years, serving as Scoutmaster, Order of the Arrow Vigil recipient and district advisor, Wood Badge participant and director, Silver Beaver awardee, and various other leadership positions at the district and council level. All three of his sons were involved in Scouting, each achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

Jim was an avid stamp collector and loved to travel, visiting most (if not all) national parks, and all 50 states. He and Phyllis also loved ocean cruises, his favorite being a cruise through the Panama Canal. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Weed-Corley-Fish North Lamar Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd.
