Obituary

James (Jim) Alexander, 90, of Lakeway, Texas, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Lakeway.

Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 29, 1928. He was the son of R.P. and Margaret Alexander. He lived his early years around Illinois. He went to high school at Castle Height Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. He attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois graduating with an Industrial Engineering degree. Jim fulfilled his 2 year commitment to the United States Air Force a portion of which was served at the Pentagon in Washington DC.

Jim met Patricia Yost, a SMU coed, on a blind date in Dallas, Texas. They married on October 3, 1953 in Dallas. He worked for Mosher Steel Co. in Tyler, TX as a salesman for 10 years before moving to Midland. In Midland Jim worked and raised his family of 3 girls, Ann Figueroa, Sara Tharp & Susie Vandever. He was a salesman for Johns Manville Pipe Division. He was an active member and elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church. He sang in the church choir, was on the building committee and supported the youth program. Pat & Jim have wonderful life-long church friends from both Covenant & Grace Presbyterian Churches as well as a unique group of neighbors. All of which helped raise his girls and created lasting memories and relationships for him and Pat over the 20 years there.

He loved sports but especially golf which he picked back up when they moved to Lakeway in 1987 after 3 years in Stockton, California where he was a District Manager. The last 31 years of his life were spent here, where he enjoyed playing golf with friends. He also enjoyed going to the Lakeway Men's Breakfast on Wednesday mornings. But more important to him was the same unique group of neighbors from Midland who are all residents of Lakeway now. This group of 5 couples have been friends for over 50 years. They are more than friends, they are family. We fondly refer to them as the "Midland Mafia".

Jim is survived by the love of his life, Pat, after 65 years of marriage, his 3 girls, their husbands, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He will always be the patriarch of this family. He set a high standard of love and respect for each of us to follow.

The family would like to thank the phenomenal nursing staff in the ICU unit of Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Lakeway for the loving care they showed to Jim and them during his stay there after a fall.
