Obituary

Jack Michael Pittala (aka Jack "The Ripper"), loving husband of Anna, died suddenly February 2, 2017. He was born in May 4, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York. The NY Yankee transplant had been a prominent fixture in the Austin music community as well as a devoted public servant for 40 years.

Jack was a talented guitarist, composer, and recording artist. He was a Best Guitarist Austin Music Award Nominee, and his band, Nasty Habits, was nominated multiple times as Best Punk / Heavy Metal Band in the early 80's. Videos of their performances on the Austin City Limit stage can be seen on YouTube. He also fronted other bands - Madman's Parade, Secret Room, Spirit World, Electric Pilgrims, and Delta Que.

He was a valued employee at Austin Energy, and was a leader and advocate for the Low-Income Multi Housing Energy Conservation Rebate Program. He had a distinguished career at the Austin Area Urban League, Austin Housing Authority and Austin Neighborhood Housing. He never position himself to take credit -"I was just doing my job". His final service to the community was as a tissue donor and Trump Resistor.

He will be greeted at the pearly gates by his father and role model, Peter Pittala, grandparents, Ida and Angelo Matasa, his Sandy dog, Blondie, Spot, Muggs, Louie, Roxanne, Leonard and Lucy.

He is survived by his wife and BIGGEST Fan Anna, his mother, MaryAnn Pittala, his uncle, Paul Matasa, sister, Kathy Beach and her husband, Dan Barnhart, and their children, Joanna and Julia Beach, ex-wife Deborah Bonsack, and his K9 children Rusty and Meka "Slappy".

Visitation will be at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on South Congress Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, followed by a brief memorial to begin at 5:00 pm and a Celebration of Life and Final Gig at the Catholic War Veterans Hall - 4913 South Congress, Austin Texas at 6:00 pm
