Obituary for Gary James "Frenchy" Larmay, Sr.

December 14, 1941 - January 27, 2019
Dale, Texas | Age 77

Gary James Larmay, Sr. (aka "Frenchy") of Mustang Ridge/Dale, TX. passed away at Onion Creek Senior Care Center on Sunday, January 27,2019 at the age of 77. He had been fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer since 2016.

Gary was born on December 14, 1941 in Burlington, Vermont to Louis and Leona (Brunelle) Larmay.

In 1983, Gary moved to Austin, Texas and became active in the Catholic Church, esp. San Francisco Javier Catholic Church. He loved his Lord and Savior and thrived on being active in the church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus council 1017 in which he served as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and several other positions over the years.

He was a devoted and hard worker for the City of Austin for many years serving as maintenance supervisor at Brackenridge Hospital until he retired. He loved working, staying busy and tinkering around in his workshop, (which he built himself). It was hard on him when he could no longer do things because of his deteriorating health but he always relied on God and was steadfast in his faith.
He was strong-willed and tough and came across sometimes as a gristly bear but to those who knew him well, he was more of a teddy bear with a soft, kind and loving heart. He loved playing Santa Claus to the grandkids when they were younger and every year in the fall he started growing his beard so that it would be a "real one" if they pulled on it. He enjoyed being a Papa. He was loved.

Gary is survived by his long-time companion/significant other of 29 years, Alice Knight; his 5 children, Gary Larmay, Jr. (wife Lisa), Katrina Maness, Louis Larmay (wife Michelle), Lisa Terrier (husband Lee), Diana Decelle; 3 stepchildren, Sherry Knight, Judy Cameron (husband Robby), Margaret Harris; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; his sister; and many good friends that are all rejoicing with him now
