Obituary

Elizabeth Elinor Wyckoff, 65, of Austin, Texas died on Sunday, April 15, 2018 in hospice care at Seton Medical Center after a 3 year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Liz was born November 24, 1952 in Salem, Oregon to Ralph W. and Faith (Chada) Wyckoff.

She grew up in the Salem area. Growing up she played flute in the band and served as a Camp Fire Girls counselor. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1974 with a BA in biology. After working for the Oregon highways department, she entered graduate school at the University of Utah. She graduated with a PhD in Cellular, Viral, and Molecular biology in 1984. She joined Dr. Shelley Payne's lab at The University of Texas in 1994 where she primarily studied iron transport in bacteria.

Outside of work, Liz enjoyed spending time with her family, going on walks, playing her flute in the church music group, participating in the church book group, and being a Stephen Minister.

Liz is preceded in death by her father, Ralph W. Wyckoff. She is survived by her mother, Faith Wyckoff; her husband, Frank Burdis; her brother and his wife, Mac and Michele Wyckoff; her sister, Carrie Philpott; her children, Nora and Andrew Burdis; and her beloved cat, Napoleon.

A memorial service will be held on April 23, 2018 11:00 am at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1500 N. Capitol of TX Hwy, Austin, Texas 78746. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Breast Cancer Resource Center (www.bcrc.org) or The Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org).
