Obituary

Edmundo Lara, 70, of Cieneguilla Pinos, Zacatecas, retired from Greater Austin Development, musician, and carpenter, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 in Austin, Texas of stomach cancer.

Edmundo was born on Monday, November 15, 1948 in Cieneguilla, Zacatecas to Jose Cruz Lara and Maria de Jesus Hernandez. He grew up in Cieneguilla and, at a very young age, learned how to cultivate the land by growing corn, beans, and other crops to help his family. His passion for music started young and, at 15, taught himself how to sing and play many instruments. Up until his death, he loved playing his accordion, guitar, and traditional tololoche, as well as composing and singing his own music. He was part of mariachi bands and would play at several events in the Austin area. He also enjoyed carpentry, cooking, and entertaining his family and friends on the weekends. He was always so happy and full of life. His last year was filled with so much joy and happiness as his newest grandchild, little Angel, came into the world and spent most days with Grandma and Grandpa, whom Angel called "Ta-Ta". He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends, as this is a huge loss to our close-knit family. His family is going to miss his music, especially our special personalized birthday songs he sang to each one of us as our mañanitas. May he rest in peace with Jesus, until we meet again.

He is survived by his wife, Lucia Lara; his four daughters, Gloria Lara Martinez (Luis A. Martinez), Laura Elena Martinez (Marcelo Martinez), Maria Lara (Ernesto Martinez), and Rocio Davila-Lara (Jaime Davila); his ten grandchildren, Diana, Marcelo Jr., Victoria (Nicolas), Melisa (Theodore), Tony (Xandria), Luis Jr., Eric (Anna), Andrew, Alex, and Angel; his great-grandchildren, Sara, Theodore Jr., Rosalie, and Mia; his mother, Maria de Jesus Hernandez; and his eleven brothers and sisters.

Viewing will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with the rosary starting at 7:00pm, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 1200 S. Bagdad Rd, Leander, TX 78641.

Mass will begin on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10am, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church at 1101 W. New Hope Dr, Cedar Park, TX 78613.

His burial will commence immediately after the church service at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, at 14501 N Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660.

A reception is to be held in his honor to celebrate his life and love for music and gatherings at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church's Benish Center.
