Obituary for Edith Jeanette Dally

February 9, 1924 - February 3, 2018
Austin, Texas | Age 93

Edith Jeanette Carr Dally was born February 9, 1924, in Port Arthur, Texas. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 3, 2018. Edith is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Ethel Carr; and sisters Lourena Cook and Mary Williams. She is survived in death by her beloved husband Retired Judge Carl E.F. Dally; son William Carl Dally and daughter-in-law Cindy Laguna Dally; granddaughter Laura Dally Stowe and her husband Nathan Jay Stowe; and nephews Thomas Cook and David Williams.

Edith grew up in Port Arthur, Texas. In 1946, she graduated from Texas Women's University with a major in Textiles. After graduation, she worked in the Agriculture Research Department at Texas A&M in College Station. During this time, she met Carl Dally of Merino, Colorado. Who, as luck and fate would have it, was an Air Force officer stationed nearby at Bryan Air Force base during the Korean War. Edith and Carl were married May 17, 1952, at Procter Street Baptist Church, where Edith was a charter member.

Once married, the happy couple moved to Houston, Texas, where Carl began his law practice and their son William "Bill" Dally was soon born in 1953 on her exact birth date. Edith was a Texas History teacher at Aldine Junior High, as well as a Sunday School teacher at Second Baptist Church in Houston. In 1971, Carl was appointed a commissioner at the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals, so the couple left the home she had beautifully designed in Houston for Austin, where she was again able to put her design proficiency to practice as she built a stunning home in West Austin.

In Austin, Edith loved teaching Sunday School at Hyde Park Baptist Church, as well as being a member and officer of the State Official Ladies Club. In 2009, she joined Austin Baptist Church where she was a proud member. Edith enjoyed living in Querencia with Carl and her cherished friends. Her lovely smile was seen at many activities and was most prominent with Carl in view. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her love for the Lord is evident in all she did.
