Obituary for Dudley James "Jimmy" Simmons

December 24, 1958 - May 18, 2017
Austin, Texas | Age 58

Dudley James "Jimmy" Simmons, 58, of Austin, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 18th after a lengthy illness.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Elva and Eugenia, his older brother Franklin, and his beloved Aunt Vivian Simmons. Jimmy attended Austin High School class of 1977 and was a member of Acacia Fraternity at UT Austin. Jimmy worked at the same business, Verisk Insurance Solutions where he had 20 years of service from 1994-2014 as a Quality Control Analyst. He dearly loved the friends that he worked with and had many funny stories to share about them. Jimmy still maintained many friendships from his high school, fraternity, and work.

Jimmy was able to go home after a year long stay at Knight's Assisted Living in Pflugerville, thanks to the loving care of Hope Kelso and Phillip Dulock. There are not enough praises or even adequate ways to thank Heart to Heart Hospice. His care team was led by Ms. Darlene Criswell, RN. Without her expertise, wisdom, advanced technical nursing skills, and emotional support, but most of all her friendship, Jimmy would never had been able to spend the past 18 months at his beloved home. Jimmy also had an amazing care team who loved him as a brother. They loved and embraced Jimmy for all his funny, quirky, and BOSSY ways that were so unique to him. Also, Jimmy's life was made so much easier by the wonderful assistance of Mr. Jonathan Lee and Mr. James Girardeau of Chase bank on Burnet Road. There will never be another "Jimmy."

Jimmy adored, loved, and was so appreciative of the incredible devotion of his caregivers. A very special thanks goes to Ms. Linda Leija, Mr. Paul Serrato, Sara Haragan, and Denise Dooley. The caregivers will never forget that one of Jimmy's favorite answers to almost any question was always a very frustrating, but oh so Jimmy, "It's just an accounting issue." Jimmy also greatly appreciated the help of his neighbors Dante, Terry and Karen.

Jimmy was an avid movie buff and he loved "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy". However, more than anything, he loved to talk. He had his own special kind of sense of humor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Jimmy will be buried at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23th at the small historic family cemetery located at Lawrence Chapel, a tiny country community in far Eastern Williamson County, near Thrall. He was very proud of its history and that it had been there since 1822.

Jimmy had too many special friends to name. However, once you were his friend, you were always his friend. He is survived by his cousin, Denise Dooley. He also has a nephew, John F. Simmons (wife Tami) and their children Staci and Shaun of the Round Rock area.
