Obituary

Douglas A. Beyer, Lt. Col., USAF, Ret., (84) passed away December 31, 2018. He was born in Seguin, TX, June 29, 1934, to Edgar F. and Gloria E. Beyer. He attended public schools and was graduated from Seguin High School in June 1952. He attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Tx, and was graduated in January 1957 with a Bachelors Degree in Science with a major in speech and a minor in Journalism, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Reserve.

He was called to active duty in July 1957, and attended pilot training schools in Malden, MO, Big Spring, TX, and Valdosta, GA. He was then assigned to fly F-89 Scorpions at Paine Field, WA. Follow on assignments included Goose Bay, Labrador, Keflavik Air Base, Iceland, and Duluth Air Defense Sector, Duluth, MN. After serving as an instructor pilot at Peterson Field, CO, he was assigned to the 331st Fighter Interceptor Squadron in Big Spring, TX, flying the F-104 Starfighter. He was subsequently assigned to Korat Air Base, Thailand, flying combat air strike missions against North Vietnam and successfully completed 100 combat sorties in the F-105 Thunderchief. He was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross with four oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with three silver oak leaf clusters, and one bronze oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Force Commendation Medal.

Upon his return to the United States, Beyer was assigned as an aircraft commander in the KC-135 air refueling tanker at Wurtsmith AFB, MI and Carswell AFB, TX. He accumulated 175 combat support missions in Southeast Asia. he was assigned to McConnell ADF, KS, in 1977 and retired in July 1985.

In 1989, he was employed by Dun & Bradstreet in Austin, TX and retired in January of 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Christine L. Beyer of Lakeway, son Douglas A. Beyer, Jr. of Salina, KS, daughter Christi K. Tarver and husband James of Monument, CO, stepson Erik G. Ingram of Smithville, stepdaughter Shelley E. Vehrs and husband Rex, of Flower Mound, TX, granddaughter Regan Micaela Vehrs and grandson, Cameron Garrett Vehrs. His sister, Patsy Jo Forshage, Seguin, TX and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 20019 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Funeral Home, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, Texas 78734.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in New Braunfels.
