Obituary

Dorothy Walker Swenson passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised on a farm at Weir, Texas. Her father was Charlie Walker and her mother was Bertha Keese Walker. She was the 2nd child out of 4 living children. She has been residing at Legend Oaks facility and we want to thank that facility for the loving care that she received.

Dorothy attended schools in Weir and Georgetown and then graduated from Taylor High School in 1936. She wanted to have a career as a Registered Nurse so she enrolled in the Brackenridge School of Nursing in the fall of 1936 and graduated as an RN in the spring of 1939. She worked for many years as a Private Duty nurse and then eventually she worked in the Emergency Department and the New Born Nursery Department at Brackenridge Hospital until she retired.

On August 19, 1939, she married Melvin Swenson who was from Manor, Texas. They lived in Austin and were married 47 years before his death in 1986.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Swenson; her parents, Charlie and Bertha Walker; her sister, Virgie Walker Johnson; and her son-in-law, Don Albritton.

She and her family were charter members of Faith United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.

She is survived by a sister, Opal Walker Sundbeck of Austin, TX; a brother, Mervin Walker (Tommy) of Weir, TX.; a daughter, Nelda Swenson Albritton of Buda, TX; a daughter Gloria Swenson Davis (Richard) of Lockhart, TX; and nephew, Larry Anderson (Ouida) of Horse Shoe Bay, TX. Grandchildren; Donnie Jones (Dina) of San Angelo, TX.; Terry Jones (Teri)of Kenedy, TX.; and Tommy Davis of Austin, TX. Great-Grandchildren; Bradley Jones, Codi Jones and Caleb Campbell of San Angelo, TX; Joshua Jones of Castle Rock, CO; and Emily Davis of Austin, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and close friends Al and Sharron Kazmir. She truly enriched the daily lives of her family and friends and will be forever cherished.

Visitation 1:15 pm on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Weed-Corley-Fish South Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Ave. Austin, TX. 78704 (512-442-1446) and the Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr., Austin, TX 78731 (512-978-2320).
