Obituary

Doris Marie Miller, a loving, giving, gracious matriarch of three generations, died on July 29th. Doris would have turned 98 years young on August 3, 2018. Family and friends will celebrate her life on the day of her birth. Doris was born and raised on a farm outside of Killeen, Texas along with her beloved brother, Tommy Mills. They spent their early years surviving the great depression. It was during those trying years she learned to squeeze pennies out of a nickel. She never got over the heartache of tragically losing her younger brother, Billy, at a young age. She loved God, family, and friends.

Before moving to Austin in 1967, she adored shopping at her favorite store, Neiman Marcus, in downtown Dallas. Once in Austin, she wasted no time getting involved in the Northwest Hills Garden Club where she met many of her life long friends. Catherine Mann, one of the first women she met at the Garden Club, quickly became her everlasting, loyal friend. After several years in Northwest Hills, she and her husband, Al, built their dream home on Lake Austin. Doris delighted in entertaining friends and family on the lake and was blessed to be able to live her last forty years in her favorite home.

Her children, Al, Jr, Stan, and Kathy; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were the light of her life. If there was a baby in the family she wanted to see, hold and love on that baby as soon as and as often as she could. Let's be honest, if there was ANY baby in her sight, she wanted to love on that baby. She just loved babies! Doris loved and supported all her nieces and nephews every bit as much as her grandchildren. ALL family was extremely important to her. She was an elegant lady through and through. Though she never uttered a curse word, and rarely raised her voice, she certainly had her way of letting you know if you upset her and you did not want to disappoint her. No one can attest to this more than Steve Carroll, her "adopted" son.

Doris lived her life as a giving and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and faithful servant of the Lord. We were fortunate to have our beautiful Doris, Doris Marie, Dorisy, Momma, Grandmudder, Mimi, in our lives for as long as we did.

Doris was lucky enough to not only be able to live in her home all of her life but also benefitted from a group of women who took care of her as if she were their own. The family will be forever indebted to these loving and devoted caregivers.
