It is with great sadness that the family of Donald E. Harley announces his passing after a brief illness, on Thursday, April 19, 2018. Don, his wife Emma, and their cats resided in Austin, Texas, for many years. Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Emma, and his brothers and sisters, Joyce Wilcox, Ann Studer, Lynn Cassidy (husband Thomas), James Harley (wife Joan), Carolyn Harley-Brooks and Jean Harley and by his brother-in-law Jose Villarreal. Don was predeceased by his brother Robert and sister Pamela and by his brother-in-law Humberto Villarreal (wife Diana). He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, and friends.

Don was born in Sterling, Colorado on November 2, 1941, the son of the late Harold and Kathareen Harley and remained in Colorado until graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in Civil Engineering. He accepted employment in Austin, Texas and worked there until retirement on June 1, 2001. He earned a Master of Science degree in engineering from the University of Texas while working in Texas. He was employed by both the Federal Bureau of Public Roads and by the Federal Highway Administration.

Don met Emma at a Young Catholic Adults Club Meeting. They were married on December 27, 1970 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Austin.

Don was an avid sports enthusiast, playing football, basketball and baseball in his youth and enjoyed with his wife being a season ticket holder for the University of Texas football and basketball games.

Don also enjoyed traveling and he and his wife traveled extensively with the Retired Faculty-Staff Association from the University of Texas.

He was an avid gardener and created a spectacular garden of amaryllis plants. They were all blooming when he passed. He also enjoyed singing in the "Occasional Choir" at St. Theresa Catholic Church.

A "Celebration of Life" Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 10th at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr, Austin.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his memory to the Austin Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
