Obituary for Daniel Franklin Ray

December 16, 1985 - April 30, 2018
Spicewood, Texas | Age 32

Daniel Franklin Ray, born to Colleen and Kenny Ray on December 16, 1985, left us far too soon. His life was shorter than anyone could have imagined but filled with compassion, joy, laughter, smiles, and warm bear hugs conveying all the love Daniel offered with every encounter.

Daniel grew up in and around South Austin, Lakeway and the Lake Travis area. His school years were all in the Lake Travis ISD, where he graduated from Lake Travis High School in 2004. Throughout his early years he was an avid baseball player, starting with t-ball and moving up through coach pitch all the way into elite baseball. He added football to the mix starting in junior high school, but his love of baseball won out and his gridiron days ending after his freshman year of high school.

After his time at Lake Travis ISD concluded, he had the opportunity to play ball at Blinn College but by this time knowing baseball wasn't his future he did attend to get his undergraduate courses complete. However with it being farther away from friends and family he transferred to Southwest Texas State University (AKA Party U) where in 2010, despite the potential distractions, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting.

Daniel was many things, but a desk jockey was definitely NOT on the list. He stuck to the construction profession, working with his father and Uncle Gary, or branching out on his own specializing in flooring installation. This allotted him the freedom of the outdoors, provided the challenges of building and the opportunity to use his business skills and his construction knowledge as Project Manager for DC Restoration in San Antonio. Daniel may not have always loved to work, but he always enjoyed being with his co-workers. They were never just co-workers; they were friends.

Fortune smiled on Daniel in August when he met Casey and her daughter Jayla. They quickly became a family filled with an unconditional love. Daniel found his heart living farther away then he wanted, so he moved to San Antonio to make them a complete family. They were ready to conquer the world together. He loved Casey and Jayla in the only way Daniel knew how, with his whole heart and soul.

In every image of Daniel, his love for life is evident. No matter the occasion - skiing, snowboarding, fishing, hunting, baseball, vacations, holidays, chilling on the lake, celebrating the accomplishments of his family and friends, their weddings and babies, and other major life events - Daniel was there to enjoy and celebrate life with those he loved.
